Pamela j davis, Tapestry weaver

Vibrant color, unusual shapes, and textural are characteristic of my art.  My hand woven tapestries are an exploration of sense of place that is motivated by my connection to the ancestors and the natural world. I combine traditional tapestry techniques and ancient symbols with free form techniques and  contemporary designs. The time intensive process of this art form requires great focus as I develop the design, dye the yarn , and weave the images.  To add a new dimension to my art I have begun training in metallurgy and precious metal clay. Recently I introduced materials such as beads, sterling silver, copper, rayon, silk, and pearl cotton into my designs.  I work with large format and small format fiber art.

The time intensive process of weaving tapestries on my loom can best be described as gently picking the strings of a harp and lying in colored wool and other material to create the melody. I dye wool yarn to achieve the intense color palette for the weft sometimes in in combination with other materials.  The warp, which provides the structure for the tapestry, is either linen or cotton.
